rating for Opera Software

4.0 A company for and by opiniated developers posted on September 12, 2008

The culture is fantastically friendly and informal. Also highly recommended for internationally minded people: Opera has offices all over the world and a very diverse population, well beyond what is usually expected for a company of this size. Developers are very influencial, and most managers (including top level) are developers themselves.

Opera is full of talented people, most of them with strong opinions, not only on technical issues, but also often on ethical ones. Expect debates.

You are expected to be highly autonomous, take initiatives, and take responsability for what you do.

On the downside, there is quite a bit of NIH syndrome, and communication channels are not always as efficient as one could wish.
