This company is a close to a cult as you'll legally get in a corporation. They have a very strong culture of fear (as all good cults do), focused mainly on marketing and sales. The CEO of Cerner was featured in a Dilbert cartoon if that tells you anything! If you drink their marketing koolaid, you'll believe they are innovative, integrated, and a leader. However, if you look at their track record and know some of their competition, you'll see that Cerner uses antiquated technology (CCL?), cannot get their bloated software to perform, and have a nightmare installation process. At best they are one of the better companies in a very sorry lot (which is almost a direct quote from a Cerner client). Of course companies like Epic are handing Cerner their hat. I worked at Cerner for many years and was succesful by any accounting. However they still vastly underpaid their people and constantly put the thumbscrews to the senior folks and long-time employees (and no, I didn't say associates). They live by Jack Welch's GE fire 10% of the people every year. They do this by reorganizing every year and then just saying "whoops your job is gone" to those they don't like anymore. During this process one year I walked into a room full of stickynotes on the wall with an employees name on each one. Can you imaging dedicating 10 years to a company and your future is decided by managers walking in and moving your sticky note from one area of a wall to another? That's how you're treated...they set you up to fail, suck the life out of you with 14 hour days and weekends and then spit you out if you stumble at all. Most employees I know there say they "keep their head down" - meaning they stay out of the spotlight as much as possible because attention from management is never good. My last 3 managers included: 1) a guy whom everyone he ever met openly hates him including clients, staff, and peers; 2) a guy who walked around saying he was going to fire us every day; and 3) an alcoholic who yells constantly at people including a time he yelled at someone just for fun. (Not kidding, he proudly bragged he was going to yell at one of his managers when she walked in and then proceeded to do so in a belittling and profanity laced tirade.)
